Types of ABA Assessments

An ABA assessment is a comprehensive evaluation process that is used to identify and evaluate the specific needs and strengths of an individual with developmental or behavioral disorders, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). An ABA assessment is an important part of starting your child on a successful ABA therapy plan and involves conducting a variety of tests and observations to gather information about your child’s behavior, skills, and abilities.

Once intel is gathered by ABA therapists they will then use their findings to create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your child’s specific needs and goals.

Keep reading to learn more about the different types of ABA assessments and how they are used to ensure the success of ABA therapy interventions.

ESDM Assessment

The ESDM, or Early Start Denver Model ABA assessment, is an evaluation designed for novice learners aged 12 to 48 months. It concentrates on developmental targets like beginner receptive skills, joint attention, pointing, and eye contact.

VB-MAPP Assessment

The Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment Placement Program (VB-MAPP) measures a child’s competence in terms of language, communication, and social benchmarks and provides an approximated developmental age for each skill, with additional assessments like the Barriers Assessment to identify behavioral challenges and the Transition Assessment to identify the ideal learning environment.

ABLSS-R Assessment

A Basic Language and Learning Skills – Revised (ABLSS-R) assessment aims to measure the skills of children with autism spectrum disorders across several benchmarks, including social play, group responding, and imitation. It then utilizes this information to develop personalized program objectives based on the child’s current functional abilities and skills.

PEAK Assessment

Promoting Emergence of Advanced Knowledge (PEAK) evaluates a person’s cognitive and language abilities, pinpointing areas of strength and areas that require improvement. Based on the results, a factor score is assigned to measure skill deficits and compare the person’s performance to peers of the same age group.

EFL Assessment

The Essential for Living (EFL) ABA assessment comprises an evaluation, a curriculum, and a skill tracking tool designed for individuals with disabilities of all ages. It concentrates on developing critical life skills, resolving problematic behaviors, and creating worthwhile targets and objectives.

AFLS Assessment

An Assessment of Functional Living Skills (AFLS) is an assessment tool that evaluates the practical, functional, and age-appropriate life skills of individuals aged 16 and above. The assessment is divided into six components that analyze functional skills and categorize them into two to four levels, covering a life-long continuum of skills.
