What are the 7 Components of ABA?

If you have a child with ASD then you likely know all about ABA therapy. But if you are new to the concept of ABA therapy, allow us to explain further.

ABA therapy is a scientifically proven Autism therapy practice that utilizes evidence-based methods to bring about meaningful change in your child’s life. Addressing several aspects of your child’s social, academic, and personal wellbeing, ABA therapy is used to reduce maladaptive behaviors and increase your child’s ability to relate more positively to their environment.

Taught by board-certified ABA therapists, or BCBAs, ABA therapy has seven distinct dimensions to ensure therapy success. The dimensions, or components, are as follows:

When searching for ABA therapy in Florida you will find there are many ABA therapists available to you. However, our reputation precedes us as the best ABA therapy practice in the state!

    1. Generality– When considering behavior intervention in ABA therapy, the behavior that is targeted for change should be targeted for general achievement that stands the test of time. In other words, ABA therapy promotes long-term results.

    1. Effectiveness– The interventions that ABA therapists use must be effective. If interventions are not effective, then ABA therapists must reassess their strategy.

    1. Technological– Technologically speaking all of the interventions included in ABA therapy plans must be fully identifiable, as well as describable so they can be replicated if need be.

    1. Applicable– ABA interventions need to be applicable to an individual. Implemented interventions should also produce significant and meaningful, long-term change.

    1. Systematically Conceptual– A systematically conceptual ABA intervention is a research-based intervention that mirrors the principles of ABA.

    1. Analytic– ABA therapists need to be analytical enough to make data-based decisions based upon the findings of interventions. If data proves that an intervention is ineffective, ABA therapists should be able to identify that.

    1. Behavioral– In order for a behavior to be addressed, it must be measurable and observable. To increase certain behaviors and decrease others you must be able to see the behavior, measure it with data, and then change it.
